OnTierraHealth Technology (OTHT) is a Rhode Island based company started in June of 2014 by Prestor and Maria Saillant.
OTHT can be considered first and foremost a ministry with a message of hope for a healthier human population anticipating a healthier aging experience.
We share with others the dissatisfaction of seeing the unexpected suffering of our parents as they age, due to chronic illnesses such as Diabetes, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and Congestive Heart Failure among many others. We are also aware of the “writing on the wall” for the Baby Boomer generation should we fail to take heed of the warnings. After all, as Einstein said, we can define insanity as, “doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.”
Maria Saillant is an Assistant Health and Wellness Coach at the Kent County YMCA in RI. She is currently an ENHANCE®FITNESS instructor at the Y. ENHANCE®FITNESS is an evidence-based group exercise program that uses simple, easy-to-learn movements that motivate individuals with arthritis to stay active throughout their life.
Maria is very active in her community and was the President of the Friends of the West Warwick Library from 2012-2015.
She is also a URI Extension Master Gardener committed to teaching about the benefits of composting and sustainable living and is a member of the Botanical Center Conservancy.
She has been registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) for over 20 years while raising four children to become good, loving, productive and unselfish human beings. She has also been a Member of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) since 2010. She is a college trained vocalist with 30 years experience singing in weddings, funerals, baby dedications, special events, concerts and church functions.
Prestor Saillant has a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Brown University, a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Stony Brook University and is an ACE certified Health Coach with extensive personal experience tracking the effects of diet, exercise and environment on mind and body.
Over the last 2 years he has focused on developing a vision of healthy holistic aging that includes the use of technology, physical fitness, nutrition and behavioral strategies for prevention of dementia and diabetes as well as for self-evolution.
He worked for 17 years at Bay Computer Associates in RI designing medical electronics and firmware. Prior to that he spent 5 years doing research for a Ph.D. and an additional year as a research associate at Brown University developing computational models of the auditory system in echolocating bats. His full profile is available on LinkedIn at Prestor’s LinkedIn Profile.
The challenge faced by OTHT is to provide tools and technologies that target three levels of health improvement, as follows:
1) Level 1 – The goal of individuals in this category is to enhance the level of health or the margin between health and disease (i.e health margin). This goes one level beyond prevention since it raises the bar with respect to health. The “vision” is that anyone can increase their level of health (i.e. increase their health margin).
2) Level 2 – The individuals in this group will very likely already have some initial symptoms or have a higher level of risk for disease due to current health and / or lifestyle and / or genetics. Devices that allow tracking of symptoms that could result in a degradation of health are included in this category.
3) Level 3 – Individuals in this category require technology to independently facilitate lifestyle or environmental interventions that can help mitigate existing chronic conditions.
OTHT will improve access to health technology by performing health technology workshops, assisting caregivers with the use of health technology that improves quality of life for the elderly, and developing new products where a need is determined to exist for a specific population.
OTHT will follow the “Root Cause” philosophy with respect to health maintenance. That is, rather than focusing on treating symptoms of disease, OTHT will empower individuals to better detect and mitigate the root causes of their health concerns.
OTHT will provide educational material related to health and health technology to promote greater appreciation of the long term consequences of failing to prioritize health and failing to track down root cause of illness.
